Households of Faith: Fiat Voluntas Tua
While other universities have Greek life, Ave Maria University is proud to offer something more profound—faith-centered households!
Fiat Voluntas Tua, meaning “Thy Will Be Done,” stands as one of AMU’s nine women’s households. Inspired by the Blessed Mother’s unconditional Yes at the Annunciation, Fiat members seek to embrace the charisms of motherhood, humility, and dying to self, ultimately surrendering their lives to the goodness of Divine Providence. For their patrons, these young women look to saints like Teresa of Avila, Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, Joseph, and Padre Pio as beacons of faithful surrender to God’s perfect plan.
“The charism of dying to self resonates most deeply with me,” shares Adrienne Driver, one of the household leaders whose spiritual journey has been profoundly shaped by this community. “My personal prayer is often centered around this. Through dying to self, we are given new life, and this household has helped me understand this mystery through witnessing each woman surrender to the Lord’s will.”
The women of Fiat Voluntas Tua have built a genuine home away from home at Ave Maria University, and their shared commitment to living out Mary’s fiat has enriched the campus culture—even winning them the title of Household of the Year! As household member Emilia Drost beautifully expressed, “The women of this household truly come together as sisters to help each other achieve the ultimate goal—sainthood.”
In a world that often overlooks motherhood, humility, and dying to self, these young women have discovered the freedom that comes through holy surrender. It is ultimately in praying, in unison with Mary, “Fiat voluntas tua” that they grow closer to the Lord and embrace His call to holiness.
