On February 25, Ave Maria University kicked off the Dr. George and Catherine Szczerbaniuk Lecture Series. This series is designed to bring world-class scholars and Church leaders to campus to explore Ukraine’s history, faith, and culture.
During opening night, students, faculty, and staff gathered for a compelling lecture featuring The Very Rev. Mitred Archpriest Dr. Mark Morozowich, associate professor of Liturgical Studies and Sacramental Theology at The Catholic University of America. Dr. Morozowich explored the spiritual richness of Byzantine Lent, and one of the Church’s most ancient liturgical practices: the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts.
On February 26, the series continued as Dr. Morozowich traced the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church’s enduring faith, resilience, and rich cultural heritage through centuries of hardship, drawing on history, theology, and lived experience. The evening concluded with a lively Q&A, allowing attendees to engage more deeply with the night’s profound themes.
